Princeton is a small town in eastern Johnston County, between Smithfield and Goldsboro. I have represented buyers on two homes in this area. If you are considering Princeton, I hope this page helps.
Where Princeton Is and Getting Around
Princeton sits along U.S. Highway 70 in eastern Johnston County, between Smithfield and Goldsboro. The town describes itself as a bridge between central and eastern North Carolina on what will become Interstate 42, according to the Town of Princeton. Drive times change with traffic and construction, so I always suggest testing your own commute at the hours you would actually drive it.
A Short History of Princeton
Princeton was incorporated in 1861 under the name Boon Hill, after a man named Boon who kept a livery stable on the stagecoach road from Goldsboro to Raleigh. The name Princeton came from a man named Hensley who moved to town from Princeton, New Jersey, and the General Assembly made the change official in 1873, according to the Town of Princeton history page. The town’s motto is “Peaceful, Pleasant, Progressive and Proud.”

Schools
Public schools here are part of Johnston County Public Schools. Attendance zones can change, so I always suggest confirming a specific address with the district’s own address lookup tool before you make a decision.
