Where Moncure Is

Moncure is in southeastern Chatham County on the Deep River, according to the North Carolina Gazetteer. Chatham County notes that the Haw and Deep Rivers converge to form the Cape Fear River, and it describes the county as sitting between the Triangle and the Piedmont Triad, per Chatham County. Drive times change with traffic and construction, so I always suggest testing your own commute at the hours you would actually drive it.

A Short History of Moncure

A post office was established in Moncure in 1877. The community was named for Thomas Jefferson Moncure, the civil engineer who built the railroad station. Moncure was incorporated in 1905, but its charter was repealed in 1935, according to the North Carolina Gazetteer. The former town of Haywood lies just to the southeast.

An Unincorporated Community

Because Moncure is not an incorporated town, there is no town government. Chatham County handles planning, zoning and permits. For any property here, I always suggest checking zoning, well and septic or utility options, and road access with the county.
